Healthcare Titans Mark Cuban and Chris Klomp Share Entrepreneurial Insights

February 27, 2026

With February wrapping up, it’s a good time to look back at the insights gained during Utah’s first Tech Month. Several events were held along the Wasatch Front that brought state leaders, key industry players, and entrepreneurs together to learn and grow.

One highlight was a panel held on the penultimate day of Silicon Slope’s Summit, during which Shark Tank star-turned prescription drug innovator Mark Cuban and Director of Medicare Chris Klomp shared some of their business insights.

“I’ve been an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember,” Cuban said. “My parents always told me if you want something, you have to earn the money for it (and) once I got the confidence that I can sell, that was it. There’s no business that’s ever succeeded without sales.”

As for Klomp, the drive to pursue business came later in life; the primary spark lit during his time consulting for companies while living on the East Coast. “There was a common theme in these meetings, this feeling that I was envious of them. I wanted to be on the other side of the table. I wanted to build.”

Speaking of that drive, Cuban shared his belief that, “If you’re starting a business, and you aren’t so excited about your product (that it’s) all you want to talk about, you’re not going to succeed. But if you are, you can start small and turn it into something special.”
