Helping Utah Startups Thrive: The Power of Incubators and Accelerators

October 30, 2025

When setting out to start a new venture, it’s important to not only build a strong foundation but also acquire the tools to support further growth. For early-stage startups, Utah’s business incubators and accelerators do just that.

These vital organizations provide support by offering guidance, resources, and networking to help young companies grow rapidly and succeed. Joining a business incubator or accelerator allows you to rub shoulders with other entrepreneurs while building beneficial skills.

Incubators focus on the foundational stages of a business, when the venture is in the idea or development phase. Some notable examples include iHub, which boasts a network of experienced mentors as well as free office space, and The Mill, which offers companies a collaborative work environment, educational workshops, and business advising services.

Once the seed has been planted, accelerators provide the light and nutrients to make it bloom. Intended for companies with a minimum viable product and business model, accelerators help to scale growth through intensive, several-month programs, and often offset seed funding by taking equity.

Utah hosts numerous programs, such as the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity’s APEX Accelerator, which guides businesses in securing government contracts, and Altitude Lab, which supports biotech and healthcare startups with state-of-the-art lab and office space, grant assistance, and pre-seed funding.

For many entrepreneurs, incubators and accelerators serve as the launchpad for lasting success. Alongside offering workspace and resources, they provide valuable mentorship, education, and connections that help transform ideas into thriving businesses — making them a vital resource to Utah’s thriving business ecosystem.
