Running a small business can feel overwhelming — managing customers, finances, and growth without burning out. That’s where Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses comes in. This free, 12-14 week program equips small-business owners who qualify with the skills, resources and network they need to grow their revenue.
In Utah, the program is delivered by The Mill at Salt Lake Community College. It combines in-person and online learning with specialized business advising. The curriculum, designed in partnership with Babson College, turns strategies into growth plans participants can implement immediately.
Who Qualifies?
With limited cohorts, the program looks for entrepreneurs who are passionate about scaling their business and creating jobs in their communities. Applicants generally meet these criteria:
- Owner or co-owner of a small business
- Annual revenue of at least $75,000 in the most recent fiscal year
- Two or more years in operation
- Two or more employees, including the owner
Once selected, participants receive training in finance, marketing, operations and leadership, plus advising a peer network, and leave with a tailored growth plan.
Proven Impact
Graduates, known as scholars, join a nationwide network of 16,000 alumni. Within six months, 66% increase revenue, 44% hire new employees, and 85% collaborate with fellow grads. Many Utah companies have used the program to reach new heights.
- Kaddas Enterprises projected 18% growth after applying new forecasting skills.
- San Diablo Churros transformed how it viewed and marketed its business.
- Bear-O-Care described the program as “like winning the business lottery.”
- Social Good Software learned to work on the business, not just in it, by mastering financial statements.
- Amboseli Foods refined its growth strategies through mentorship and peer feedback.
As of April 2025, Utah celebrated its 1,000th graduate in Salt Lake City and launched a new rural track to expand access statewide. These alumni collaborate, trade referrals, and share strategies to drive state growth.
How To Apply
Utah cohorts run in the spring and fall, with rolling admissions. The program requires a 12-14 week commitment with weekly class days, assignments, and advising, all at no cost. Applications are open through The Mill at SLCC.
